Dr. Oz Debunks Three Common Anti-Aging Myths

Dr. Oz Debunks Three Common Anti-Aging Myths

Everyone wants to look younger; however, few know how to go about it. Most people have heard all sorts of crazy anti-aging remedies that sound reasonable enough. Unfortunately, health experts have proven that many of these tricks aren’t founded on good science. On a recent episode of his popular talk show, Mehmet Öz sought to debunk a handful of these myths, to the chagrin of his aging viewers.

No. 1: Moisturizing Prevents Wrinkles

The Dr. Oz Show attracts millions of loyal viewers who are eager to learn tricks to promote better health and slow the aging process. That said, countless fans were undoubtedly disappointed to hear him say that moisturizing lotions have little impact on wrinkles. According to Dr. Oz, wrinkles occur due to the deterioration of collagen and elastin scaffolding that supports our facial skin. Since moisturizers can’t fight this effect, they cannot eliminate wrinkles.

No. 2: Sunscreen Prevents Lip Thinning

While sunscreen can help prevent the development of wrinkles and fine lines; it won’t keep lips from thinning as we age. According to Dr. Oz. Much like pillows, our lips are puffy with collagen during our youth. As we age, however, collagen depletion leads to inevitable, natural lip thinning. While genetics play a big role in how much and how fast our lips thin; we’re all likely to experience some noticeable thinning as we age. Although there are cosmetic procedures that promote fuller lips, few natural remedies have shown any real promise. So, if you want fuller lips akin to the ones you enjoyed during your youth, consider visiting a qualified cosmetic surgeon.

No. 3: Egg White Facials Firm the Skin

Numerous women swear by egg white facials; however, Dr. Oz says these treatments only provide a short-term effect that fades quickly. On the other hand, the doctor and television personality did say that people can promote tighter, more youthful looking skin by sleeping on their backs instead of their stomachs or sides.

Other Anti-Aging Remedies that Work

Although Dr. Oz’s revelations may cause many people to throw their hands up in frustration; there are ways aging adults can regain the youthful beauty they once enjoyed. According to Dr. Ken Collins of Spokane, Washington, cosmetic injectables are becoming more and more popular with people who are fed up with products and home remedies that don’t pan out.

“Unfortunately, natural facials and skin creams are limited in the results they can achieve, because they can’t replace the missing collagen and elastin beneath the skin,” he said. “On the other hand, injectable fillers such as Juvéderm help firm skin and reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines by replacing what we lose naturally as we age.”

Made from hyaluronic acid, a sugar which occurs naturally in our bodies, Juvéderm can help diminish common age-related flaws for as long as a year; so if you’re worried about smile lines, crow’s feet, vertical lip lines and other wrinkles, ditch the lotions and consider giving injectables a try.
